Valerie Hannah is a seasoned educator with over 15 years of experience in adult learning, online instruction, and critical thinking. As a lecturer at California State University, Fullerton, she is known for her student-centered approach and commitment to academic excellence. Valerie’s teaching philosophy was shaped by her own inspiring professors and learning experience. In addition to her university teaching experience, she has taught at multiple community colleges, specializing in literacy, basic skills instruction, DEI and instructional design.

Valerie’s global perspective is rooted in her experiences as an American Field Service (AFS) exchange student in Western Australia and an English teacher in Slovakia. She earned her BA in International Relations from San Francisco State University and holds two master’s degrees from CSUF (Instructional Design & Technology and Education with a Literacy emphasis), both earned with Summa Cum Laude honors. Valerie’s expertise also includes the use of AI in multi-modal learning environments, accessibility, and neurodiversity in education.

A passionate advocate for community and global engagement, Valerie has led the Governance and Management Task Force and sat on the Board of

Directors in the Junior League of Orange County, and received recognition for her service from the State of California Senate. Her three-decade involvement with AFS reflects her dedication to developing globally minded citizens and advancing a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable future through education and cross-cultural exchange.
